Making a faux brick wall with sheetrock plaster.
Brick wall sheetrock.
When attaching plasterboard to a brick fireplace wall you have two options.
When most people think of a brick wall they may envision a brick wall in the kitchen or around a brick fireplace.
Hi i have a room with drywall on 3 walls that meets up to a large chimney on the fourth wall.
Homes are constantly settling as different construction materials expand and contract at different rates.
These wall assembly files are used for planning and estimation purposes for many ul wall types such as fire rated wall assemblies.
Once the drywall compound has set finish the job like you would any drywall by using joint compound and tape to cover joints and nail holes.
So this year i decided to try for a permanent fix.
Make a faux brick wall as inexpensive as i can.
Step 5 attach drywall.
Place the furring strips vertically on the wall about 16 inches apart.
Currently the intersection of drywall and brick is unfinished and covered with 3 4 round.
Major undertaking since it is in a vaulted part of the foyer going.
Screw 1 by 2 furring strips into the brick using masonry anchors screws that expand when they enter the brick.
Usg provides resources here for our ul wall assemblies for seamless integration into any construction project.
The compound will act as an adhesive to hold the wall in place.
Direct bond versus screws.
Brick homes brick fireplaces brick walkways and drives and yes brick walls.
Whether drywall plaster or concrete walls are susceptible to cracks even walls in newly built homes are prone to cracks which normally occur from settling.
Use construction adhesive to glue the drywall directly to the brick known as the direct.
You will need to use 1 inch drywall screws as the normal 2 inch will be too long with only the small furring strips that are acting as studs.
You may have to pre drill holes using a masonry drill bit.
After you have the furring strips attached to the masonry wall you can then attach the drywall as you would with a normal stud wall.
Place the drywall on the brick surface and use masonry nails driven into the mortar to hold the sheet in place until the compound dries.
